Donald E. Peterson

Donald E. Peterson, 98, of Peoria, formerly of Morton, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Proctor Place in Peoria.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Phyllis, whom he married on March 20, 1948; together, they had one beloved son, Mark, who passed away in 2013. He is also survived by their extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don was born on March 27, 1926, in Peoria to the late Oscar and Mary Keirl Peterson. He graduated from Woodruff High School, where he and Phyllis met, in 1944. He entered the U.S. Navy following graduation, serving until his honorable discharge in 1946. After returning home, he earned a degree from Bradley University in 1950 and enjoyed many years of service at Caterpillar. Don enjoyed travel, especially to Branson, and antiquing. He was a member of the Cat Retirees’ Club and First United Methodist Church in Peoria.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
